The core idea

A status relay is a planned sequence where one hero applies a status ailment and the next hero in the tag chain consumes or amplifies it for bonus effect. Done well, a relay turns four separate characters into a single coordinated combo that far out-damages any one of them alone.

The nine status ailments

The game features nine primary ailments. Each interacts differently with heroes' kits:

Building a relay: a worked example

Consider the chain Castella β†’ Lute β†’ Theresia, which our Team Builder rates as strong synergy:

  1. Castella applies Break and Stun, shattering the enemy's poise and locking them.
  2. Tag to Lute. Because the enemy is Broken/Stunned, Lute's Signal Skill triggers for a free high-damage entry.
  3. Lute adds Knockdown. Tag to Theresia, whose kit detonates on Stun + Knockdown for a Bleed payoff.

The result is a continuous flow of damage with no dead time β€” each hero sets up the next.

Principles for strong relays

  • Setup before payoff. Lead with Break/Stun appliers, finish with damage dealers who consume those states.
  • Match Signal triggers. Each hero's Signal Skill has a condition; build the chain so the condition is always met on tag-in.
  • Cover, don't repeat. A team that applies four different ailments usually beats one that applies the same one four times.
  • Test it. Use the Team Builder to score candidate teams before investing resources.
